What is Naturopathic medicine ?

Naturopathic medicine is a remarkable natural approach to health and healing that acknowledges the integrity of the whole person. Naturopathic medicine is heir to the vitalistic tradition of medicine in the Western world, the emphasis on treating disease by stimulating, enhancing and supporting the inherent healing properties of people. Treatment method chosen to work with the patient's vital force, respecting the intelligence of the natural healing process.
The practice of naturopathic medicine shows six basic principles of healing. These principles are based on objective observations about the nature of health and illness, and continued again in the light of scientific analysis. These are the principles that characterize the profession from other medical approaches:
(1)Healing power of nature. The body has the inherent ability to establish, maintain and restore health. The healing process is honest and intelligent, natural healing through the reaction of the lifestyle. The role of physicians and to facilitate that process, to act and to identify barriers to health and recovery to eliminate, and the creation of internal and external environment to support healthy.

(2)Identifying and treating the cause. The disease does not occur without reason. Underlying causes of disease must be discovered and removed or treated before a person can fully recover from illness. Symptoms are expressions of the attempt by the body to heal, but not the cause of the disease.Symptoms, not to be suppressed by the treatment. Causes may occur on many levels including physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional. Physicians should evaluate the underlying causes at all levels, directing treatment at root causes than the expression of symptoms.
(3)First do no harm.Disease is an objective process of the organism. The healing process, including the development of symptoms, which in fact an expression of life force attempting to heal itself. Therapeutic actions should be complimentary and synergistic with the healing process.  So those are designed to suppress symptoms without eliminating the causes are considered harmful and should be avoided or minimized.

(4)Treat the whole person.Health and disease are conditions of the organism as a whole, the whole complex of factors involving the interaction of physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, and others. Doctors should treat the whole person by taking all these factors. Harmonious functioning of all aspects of the individual is very important for rehabilitation and prevention of diseases, and requires a personalized and comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment.
(5)The Doctor as teacher. Accurate diagnosis, physicians should work towards a healthy relationship with interpersonal sensitivity to the patient. Cooperative doctor-patient relationship has inherent therapeutic value. The main role of the physician is to educate patients and to take responsibility for promoting health. The physician is a catalyst for healthy change, stimulating and motivating patients to take responsibility. This is a patient, not a doctor, who ultimately make / complete healing. Physicians should strive to inspire hope and understanding. Physicians should also make a commitment to his / her personal and spiritual development to a good teacher.
(6)Prevention. Prevention is the best CURE.The ultimate goal of any health care system should be prevention. This is achieved through education and promoting life-habits that create good health. Doctors assess risk factors and hereditary susceptibility to disease and makes appropriate interventions to prevent further losses and to avoid risks for patients. The emphasis is on building health rather than combating
the disease.
